Overview

The Upstream Marketing Director for Health Plans is responsible for leading upstream marketing efforts for the Health Plans segment, including identifying and socializing market and customer insights, informing and guiding the development of integrated, member-centric solutions, and supporting the annual operating plan (AOP) process and long-term strategic plan for Health Plans marketing. This role will collaborate closely with Physician, Clinical Segment, Diagnostic Services, Health Systems, Consumer, Digital, and Market Research & Analytics marketing teams. This position reports to the Sr. Director Health Plans Marketing and may be based remotely within the US or may follow a hybrid schedule in our Secaucus, NJ HQ location.

Responsibilities

  • Align Solutions with Health Plan Customer Needs:Maintain a deep understanding of payer needs, behaviors, trends, and drivers to inform strategic marketing initiatives that drive business impact
    • Build relationships, collaborate, and liaison with stakeholders from Health Plans, Sales, Franchise, Legal, Compliance, Market Research, Market Strategy, Provider Analytics and Commercial Excellence
    • Lead identification, understanding, and socialization of health plan voice of customer insights as well as market dynamics and drivers
    • Serve as a strategic advisor to Health Plans team and other business leaders
  • Drive Innovation:Fuel marketing program development with insights into market gaps and health plan customer pain points
    • Lead the identification of new or the enhancement of existing marketing solutions, including the development of business opportunity proposals
    • Ensure early-stage alignment with the internal Health Plans team; as their liaison, provide input and guidance into solution development
    • Lead the marketing aspects of the Health Plan strategy, roadmap, and implementation
  • Strategic Planning:Inform key decisions on access, coverage, pricing, products/services, positioning and market strategies to maximize ROI
    • Analyze market research insights, customer data, segmentation/clustering analysis to inform strategic planning and optimize marketing strategies
    • Support the annual operating planning process for the health plans team
    • Develop the 3-year health plan roadmap that supports strategic goals
    • Lead buyers' journey, buyer personas, and value proposition efforts
  • Market Responsiveness:Continually monitor payer landscape to facilitate quick response to market events/changes to maintain competitive advantage
    • Collect, update, maintain and socialize competitive intelligence and analysis
    • Support health plan team major strategic initiatives with thought leadership
    • Advise downstream health plan marketers on resources needed to support the health plan customer experience
  • Sustain Long-Term Growth:Focus on long-term trends, ensuring ongoing success and relevance in the market
    • Support the development of the long-term strategic plan for the health plans segment

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree is required, MBA preferred
  • Minimum 10+ years success in a health plans/payer or healthcare marketing role with 5+ years in a strategy role; experience marketing in highly regulated industries preferred
  • Up to 20% business travel required
  • Team oriented – ability to motivate and work well with diverse, cross-functional teams and in a highly matrixed environment; demonstrated ability to build strong stakeholder relationships
  • Superior strategic thinking and analytical skills to synthesize market/customer insights into prioritized business opportunities; strong capabilities in analyzing data to demonstrate quantifiable opportunities or results; ability to conceptualize complex ideas
  • Excellent project management skills, including management of agencies and vendors to ensure execution
  • Superior storytelling and strong communication skills including ability to develop and deliver formal business presentations.
  • Knowledge of US payer landscape including awareness of Commercial, Medicare, Medicaid, and other government segments
  • Initiative – ability to independently problem solve and find resolutions
